Carbon Nitride-Based Catalysts for High Pressure CO2 Photoreduction

In the current research, productivity of CO2 photoreduction has been boosted by performing reaction in an innovative photocatalytic reactor, which allows for operation up to 20 bar. A set photocatalysts were used, including three types pristine TiO2, i.e., one commercially prepared (Evonik P25), home-prepared flame spray pyrolysis (FSP), and obtained hydrolysis TiCl4 (TiO2exCl), a bare thermo-exfoliated carbon nitride (C3N4-TE), binary materials composed TiO2 C3N4-TE. The was carried out water at pH 14 presence Na2SO3 as hole scavenger. Hydrogen very small amounts CO detected head space photoreactor, while liquid phase, main product formic acid, along with traces methanol formaldehyde. composites P25/TE TiO2exCl/TE found have higher if compared its single constituents used alone, probably due heterojunction formed coupling two materials. Moreover, high pressure applied photoreactor proved be effective boosting yield organic products.
